A 1964 made video about Vancouver Housing and was unearthed, and it’s a great watch. Not only does it have all the special effects and music you would expect from a 1964 made video, but it’s a great look into what was happening in the city as it was experiencing growth and age in it’s housing market.
There’s a focus on Strathcona because that area, being one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the city, was aging quickly and needed to be revitalized. Most buildings in Vancouver, even the older condo buildings in East Van, weren’t built until the 1970’s so the housing market in 1964 had mostly houses, which wasn’t serving the needs of the growing city.
