Cedar Cottage in Knight area of East Vancouver

Cedar Cottage is known as being a very popular residential neighbourhood in East Vancouver. Aside from some great houses (and some not great houses), nice parks and a true community feel, the reason that brings a lot of Buyers to this neighbourhood is the school: Charles Dickens Elementary and its Annex, consistently rated one of Vancouver’s Best Elementary Schools.

Real estate in Ceder Cottage

There is a small area in the Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood that may have soft soil (i.e. the dreaded Vancouver bog) which is something potential Buyers should look out for – this area is generally between East 21st and East 27th, just east of Glen Dr. The soft soil could lead to some foundation issues and sinking homes, but as long as the house is solid, it shouldn’t be a problem. Otherwise, the area has a lot of great character homes, and offers easy access to lots of other areas of the city (Burnaby, Mount Pleasant, Grandview, Victoria, and more).

This area is part of the Knight (Kensington-Cedar Cottage) Real Estate Neighbourhood.

Parks in the Dickens area include Glen Park (adjacent to Charles Dickens Annex) and Sunnyside Park (adjacent to Charles Dickens Elementary). There are also bike paths, and the city has invested money into beautifying the area with improved sidewalks, trees and benches. Here’s a great Vancouver Sun article on the improvement of Cedar Cottage in the 1990’s and early 2000’s, and how that’s shaped the community today.
