Favourite Neighbourhood Bars off Hastings
Hastings is one of those areas where you run into your neighbours and friends. Everyone I know who lives in the Hastings-Sunrise area really likes it, which is a feeling you can sense at the bars and drinking holes you’ll frequent.
Craft Breweries
Where do I even begin with the breweries in the neighbourhood? Parallel 49, Andina, Strathcona, Callister’s, Doan’s Storm, Coal Harbour, Powell and more not far away. Hop on a bike and explore. You can have a fun day visiting a handful of them, or become a regular, knowing all the details of each limited release and popular brew. It’s known as “Yeast Van” for a reason!
Located, mostly, North of Hastings.
The Waldorf is a great place to dance and have fun. It’s known for it’s Tiki Bar which offers interesting drinks, daily happy hour and weekly music events. The Waldorf also has Nonna’s Table Pizzeria restaurant.
Located at E Hastings and McLean.
Jackalope’s Neighbourhood Dive
One of my faves in the neighbourhood. They have the BEST nachos, and as they say “Beer, Food, Metal”. They have a well stocked bar, good food (that is approachable for vegans, vegetarians and celiacs) and a fun vibe for a night out. It’s located at a good spot on Hastings just west of Nanaimo. The main image above is of Jackalopes (pulled from their website)!
Located at E Hastings and Nanaimo.
Resurrection Spirits is a relatively new addition to the neighbourhood and a welcome one. Like it’s many craft brewery neighbours, it’s both a distillery and a lounge, offering great cocktails made with its own Gin and Rye products, with some local brews on tap too.
Located at Franklin St and Commercial Drive.
BONUS NEW ADDITION:
This is a new restaurant in the area, but they have a bar area and a good cocktail program. If you’re looking for a a spot to have some good and interesting drinks (cocktails, sake, wine, beers, oh my!) then grab a seat, order a few bites to eat and enjoy the atmosphere.
Located at E Hastings and Garden Dr
