East Vancouver’s Up-and-Coming Neighbourhood: Railtown
Railtown has a new condo development to look forward too: 626 Alexander. This 24 units complex will have 12 one bedroom units on the second floor, 12 two bedroom + rooftop deck units on the third (and fourth) floor and retail on street level.
Built by Circadian Developments and EPIX Developments, and designed by Gair Williamson Architects, 626 Alexander will retain the industrial vibe of the neighbourhood with it’s warehouse like exterior, while embracing the modern interiors that are common these days.
Each un
it will come with a parking spot, and there will be a certain number of storage lockers available for purchase. The building will offer a bike repair station and bike storage as well.
The 1 bedroom units will be around 565 sqft on one level, with a galley kitchen and flex space. These units will not have outdoor space, but there is a common courtyard that residents can use. These units will start at $244,900 (+ GST). Taking a look at the floor plan, there isn’t any wasted space (in the form of hallways or stairs). Your dining table will also have to double as an island and kitchen prep space when needed, though that is common in modern condos these days.
I haven’t seen the site, but the south facing units may not have the best outlook (as it would be facing the lane, and perhaps another building), however the north facing units are street facing and will get some light.
The 2 bedroom units will be around 1120 sqft on two levels, with the bedrooms on the second level. The units have 2.5 bathrooms, one being a power room on the main level. These homes come with their own private roof top deck, and if you’re facing north, you’ll have fantastic views of the mountains. These units will start at $539,900 (+ GST).
The location of 626 Alexander is definitely up and coming. Railtown in Vancouver is known as an industrial part of town, where you’ll find furniture stores, new businesses (like the lululemon headquarters), funky new restaurants (Bistro Wagon Rouge, Ask for Luigi, Belgard Kitchen), breweries and more. You’re only a few blocks to Gastown and Crab Park, as well as Chinatown and The East Village.
