Skating in Vancouver Parks
You can now lace up your skates and hit the ice on the frozen Trout Lake in East Vancouver.
Yesterday the Vancouver Park Board tweeted that the lake has the required 12 centimetres of frozen solid ice and is safe for unsupervised skating.
The Park Board has also temporarily removed the “Danger” signs situated on the lake’s surface.
Since the news was announced it’s been a busy morning on the lake with many excited skaters taking to ice to make the most of the rare conditions. Amazingly, 1996 was the last time East Vancouver and Trout Lake has be cold enough for residents to enjoy outdoor skating.
Please take care when skating in and around Vancouver. The Park Board has not said whether other ponds and lakes in the city, like Stanley Park’s Lost Lagoon and the pond on Granville Island, are safe to skate on yet. We highly recommend sticking to Trout Lake for now!
