New Condo in East Van: 209 East 7th Ave

If you’ve driven North or South down Main St around East 7th Ave, I’m sure you’ve seen the large signs indicating a new Development coming to the neighbourhood, called Paragon. There isn’t much information available at the moment, but I did managed to gather some tidbits to cure a curious mind.

The Development Permit acknowledges Paragon to be a 9 storey mixed use building (i.e. residential, commercial and artist studio’s) to go in the location sitting at 209 East 7th Ave (right at the corner of Main St). Though there could be some variation in these details when the building is eventually finished, at this time it looks like it will be a 95 unit, 9 storey building with 4 artist live-work lofts, 3 levels of underground parking (108 spots) and a building height of just under 100ft. See the featured photo above for a rendering (this can change as well).

The Development Permit was submitted by Arno Matis Architecture Inc. Take a look at this page on AMA Inc’s website about the Vertical Forest Building as well as this Globe and Mail Article from 2013, titled “Finally, a building as good as it’s view“. From the Globe and Mail Article:

And there is even talk of a park on 7th Avenue, which would stretch across to the edge of the library/community centre. Currently, three town homes are planned for this south facing side, envisioned as more family affordable units. And south and west facing residential and retail units – as well as a unique common area/roof deck – will benefit from glass canopies, allowing for outdoor social engagement in a city of rain.

The lucky few who score the penthouse suites will have the benefit of unimpeded north-facing city views.

But they might also be tempted to gaze out at the roof gardens and exotic cantilevers fashioned by Mr. Matis’s geometrically intricate design that will offer a series of elegantly cascading terraces.

Paragon hasn’t yet opened a sales centre, or released an other information about the types of units, finishings or floor plans, but stay tuned – we’ll keep you updated. This building will be down the street from another new building that should finish this Spring (and as of this post, has about 5 units left for sale) called Shine.

At this point, if you’re architecturally inclined, you can browse through the information available on the City of Vancouver’s Development site for this Paragon project: 209 East 7th Ave. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you want more information, or want to be kept posted on the status of Paragon on East 7th.
