Neighbourhoods near Transit in East Vancouver

Share Article

We have a lot of clients who are looking for a condo near a transit station, so I wanted to point out the stations you should be looking towards if you’re hoping to be near a Skytrain Station in East Vancouver.

Take a look at the map below, not only does it point out the stations on the various transit lines, but in between each station is lists the walking time to get from one to another, which is helpful if you’ll be living nearby or in between two stations. Note that the orange line represents the “B-LINE” bus system.

Millennium Line:

Runs from Waterfront Station in Downtown Vancouver, through South Burnaby (Metrotown), New Westminster, and heads north to Lougheed and North Burnaby (Brentwood) where it continues on to VCC-Clark.

Expo Line:

Runs from Waterfront Station in Downtown Vancouver, through South Burnaby (Metrotown), New Westminster, and heads south to Surrey.

Canada Line:

Runs from Waterfront Station in Downtown Vancouver under Cambie St towards the YVR Airport and Richmond.

Evergreen Line:

Runs from the Lougheed station on the Millennium Line to Port Moody and Coquitlam.

* There is potential that a new Skytrain Line running along Broadway from VCC-Clark to Arbutus (and potentially further out towards UBC) may be built, though the project doesn’t yet have the necessary funds/approval, and would take years to be developed. In 2015, the Province of BC held a transit referendum asking residents if they were okay with a small increase in taxes to pay for a variety of updates to our transportation network. Unfortunately, this referendum did not pass so the project is on hold.

Renfrew and Renfrew Heights Skytrain Stations

Renfrew and Renfrew Heights are primarily detached neighbourhoods, so you won’t find many condos nearby (though they do exist!). There are a few stations that can get you into Vancouver or Burnaby. It’s an 11-minute walk between the stations, and about 15-20 minutes from certain parts of Renfrew heights to the Rupert Station.

  • Renfrew Station: Located at the intersection of Renfrew and E 12th Ave (Grandview Highway). This station offers access to the Millennium Line.
  • Rupert Station: Located at the intersection of E Broadway (just before it becomes Lougheed) and Rupert St. This station offers access to the Millennium Line.

Victoria and Trout Lake Stations

The Victoria neighbourhood, and nearby Trout Lake area are served by two different Skytrain Stations. Trout Lake has a few townhouses developments and smaller condos in the neighbourhood, and most of the area in Victoria along Kingsway is high and low rise developments. It’s at least a 10 minute walk from Kingsway and Nanaimo to Nanaimo Station, so it’ll be a few minutes longer depending on where you’re located off Kingsway.

  • Nanaimo Station: Located at the intersection of Nanaimo and E 24th Ave. This station offers access to both the Millennium Line and Expo Line.
  • 29th Avenue Station: Located at the intersection of E 29th Ave and Kaslo (just east of Slocan St). This station offers access to both the Millennium Line and Expo Line.

Joyce-Collingwood Stations

The Collingwood neighbourhood is a popular condo and townhouse community thanks to its access to Burnaby and Vancouver. The neighbourhood consists of a number of high rises condo towers (built from the mid-1990’s to quite recently) in addition to the detached homes surrounding this area. Note that many of the condos that face north will have fantastic views, but will also experience Skytrain noise.

  • Joyce Station: Located at the intersection of Vanness Ave and Joyce St. This station offers access to both the Millennium Line and Expo Line.
