Elementary School Boundary Changes in East Van

The Vancouver School Board has announced some proposed changes to the Elementary school boundaries, to begin in the 2019 school year. These changes will only affect new students (i.e. students who have yet to start at the school) but this is still something to consider for everyone.

The Vancouver School Board makes these changes based on population growth and school capacities. As the city sees more and more family style living (i.e. townhouses and duplexes) in certain areas, they’ll also start to see an influx of new students and it shifts the demands made on each school with regards to class size and

The photo below shows the new school boundaries (the colours indicate the areas) with the elementary school represented as a black square (or black star for French Immersion schools). The black rectangles indicate an area that used to be in a different catchment. Three of the biggest changes are the condo buildings near Science World will now send their kids to Strathcona Elementary, east of Fraser in Mount Pleasant will now send their kids to Queen Alexandra and homeowners between Main and Fraser, south of King Ed will now send their kids to Brock Elementary.
