Rain Screening – A Vancouver Special Renovation

Share Article

Now that we’ve finished with the installation of the Tyvek (waterproofing) and strapping, we were ready to start with the siding. There are a number of different types of metal siding to go with, but which one would look best? In this case, we decided to go with a wider offset, just to make sure that the front didn’t look too busy. We were going to keep the brick (eventually painted), so if we were to go with the 2″ or 6″ corrugated metal siding, the front would look a little chaotic. We worked with a local manufacturer to figure out our options and decided on 12″ panel, held by a rivet system. The panel system went on well, but it’s was much more time consuming, due to the rivets requiring more care. We’re left with the balcony railing, new downspouts, door, and paint.
